Our first appointment at the vet was the day after we picked them up. (They had worms, poor puppies!) It cost us $10 for the medicine and to have them assessed. I thought that was awesome because I was afraid the puppies would be SO expensive. Well, I realized that the first assessment is a N/C (No Charge) as a welcome "gift" because if you stay with the vet for any amount of time they will definitely recover the costs! We've spent more on the puppies this month than we pay on our mortgage. Last week the boys were fixed. They did very well and even behaved at the vets for 8 hours while they were there without us. We didn't want their surgical incision to get infected, so I Kyle and cleaned while they were at the vet. The puppies had a bath before they went the vet. We let them be inside all of the time and only went outside with supervision. We really enjoyed them being inside, and you could tell they did too. Now it's like 100 degrees, so they REALLY don't want to go outside. Having them inside all of the time has helped with potty training too.
Convalescence...they are such spoiled puppies! We had to keep them "quiet" for 24-48 hours after surgery, so I bought them beef hip bones that had been smoked. They LOVED them, but they are rather messy. McCartney Lennon WE GOT A GET WELL SOON PACKAGE!!!!
They wanted to open it!
They got a card, but they tried to eat it. So, they didn't really get to see the card!
They got new toys! Thanks Mom, Dad and Court! (They also liked the bones!) They have almost chewed through all the toys they have gotten, so they needed some new ones.
Just because you got a new toy and you had surgery does not mean you can chew it on the couch, Lennon! This post is not chronological....sorry! We traveled to IA for Jenna Bown's wedding June 12-13. The boys got to ride the whole trip in the back seat w/o the puppy tent that we are still borrowing from Jake and Felicia.
Lennon laying on top of McCartney.
McCartney laying his paw on top of Lennon. We gave my mom her birthday gift. The puppies wanted to help her open it. Lennon likes the camera.
They got to eat their first real bones...leftovers from our Iowa Pork Chops. They loved those!! (Kyle really had to convince me to give them real bones!)
They also got all sorts of treats from Mom (Tracy). These are their rawhide suckers. Lennon
McCartney NOT PICTURED....the amazing mess they made. It rained the ENTIRE time were were there. Dad had dug up their yard because of a water leak, so they area just outside the house (the usual potty area) was totally mud. Mom and Dad were not used to the mess, and they no longer want to get a puppy. Also, not pictured was the puppies finding a skunk. We're very blessed that they did not get sprayed because they were close enough too. (We also learned that we need to work on come in important situations (like those when they are chasing something they shouldn't!!).) Barking at random things.... The mower (Lennon)
The hose filling their swimming pool
Lennon barking at McCartney because he thinks it's his pool! Notice the water all over the cement. They chased each other through the pool multiple times. The vacuum (Kyle washed the couch covers and vacuumed the couch because the puppies still think they are allowed to sit up there. Guess how long it took for one of them to be back on the couch? Long enough to go downstairs and clean up McCartney's latest mess....lint and puppy hair from the trash can all over the small area of carpet in the basement. And yes, it was McCartney to get on the clean couch first!)
I noticed early last week that our lime green curtains had a large hole in them. They are the curtains that the previous owners put in the house. While they are pretty, they are dry clean only, and they are too long for the windows. Neither Kyle or I witnessed the event, so we're not sure who to blame for the large bite taken out of the curtain. Lennon curled up with the curtain last week, so I thought I'd take a picture of it. (The hole is the frayed looking part in the top 1/3 of the picture).
This is kind of blurry, but it is a good pic of both of them looking at the camera.
These shoes are no more....these are the first pair that McCartney ate almost all of. (By the way, this picture is of him trying to eat the sandals. They got taken away this time, but they were found again while I was gone and didn't do as well!)
Their near death experience The puppies graduated to their "big boy" collars on Monday night because their baby collars were starting to choke them. The collars are about 1.5 times too big, but they work, or so we thought. I worked on Tuesday, so I was gone for this. Kyle was reading that morning while the puppies were outside. He heard McCartney yelp but in his usual fashion when Lennon bites him too hard. Then he heard louder yelping. He went outside to find McCartney's lower jaw stuck in Lennon's collar. McCartney had tried to grab Lennon's collar (or this is what we think) and got stuck in the part were there are two layers. Then he tried to get out but twisted himself in there even more. Lennon was choking. McCartney was foaming. Kyle tried to get them apart but couldn't. He turned to go inside to get scissors, and Lennon followed. Kyle tried to get Lennon not to follow, but somehow McCartney got untwisted in that movement. McCartney had some blisters on his lower jaw (see pic below) but seems to be fine. Lennon broke a blood vessel in his eye. He was ok on Tuesday but started acting funny Wednesday. I took his to the vet, and he got a pain shot and some steroid/antibiotic eye drops. (See why I entitled this post "Expensive puppies") He was a different pup after he got his pain shot. He, however, was a nervous puppy at the vet and even pottied all over their floor. He was shaking. I think it was because he was left there last time and because he didn't feel good and because we left McCartney at home. (It was their first trip alone!) **GRAPHIC PIX**
Poor puppies!! At the end of the day, even though they are expensive, destructive and ornery, we love them SO much! A picture from the first day we had them... I can't believe they were ever that tiny and sweet, but they were!!
